Soya
Soya has not been at the party this week. The funds have continued to strengthen their position as they see commodities a better bet for a good return than other investments. Brazil has come out with the first indications of the 2011 plantings, which, they say are going to be around 24 million hectares, 500,000 acres more than last year. On the face of it this could produce a record crop, conditions allowing. However, we have been here before and prices have not fallen like everyone thought. The key thing to watch is worldwide demand.
Rapemeal
Well nothing much more to say than it’s more of the same for Rape. All the focus is on the nearby positions and getting supply. Annual maintenance continues, however, this is very important as it should keep the plants running through the winter.
Energies/Fibres
It seems as though the wheat market is on Red Bull. It started the week moving downwards after some bearish weather news, but since then the market was up Wednesday and today. At the time of writing the market is up £3/£3.50/t. All the time we keep getting weather scares and fund money in flow the downside is limited. It will be interesting to see what happens if the harvest throws up better than expected yields. As a result fibres have remained in strong demand and prices have reacted accordingly. At present we are now sold out of bread until the end of September.
Molasses
Are you concerned about your Ration Heating?.......read on As soon as a TMR is produced the exposed feed is colonised by microbes and yeasts (moulds). Numbers can increase very quickly. Their activity (fermentation) generates heat, odours and tastes in the TMR all of which reduce intake and performance.
Fermenation
C6H12O6 (Carbohydrate) C2H5OH + 2CO2 Ethanol
Therefore as well as reducing the overall feed value per Kg by fermenting the most valuable feed ingredients, stock also eat less giving a double impact.
Fresh-Guard is a combination of microbial inhibitors and surfactants which can be added to your existing molasses product meaning there are no overall ration changes.
Using Fresh-Guard can reduce the deterioration of the TMR and help achieve higher intakes and better performance. This can be easily observed as reduced ration heating Trial work has shown Fresh-Guard to be highly effective. Control and Test groups of 115 cows each received a similar TMR except the Test group ration included 2kg/hd/day of a Molasses Liquid blend containing Fresh-Guard.
Overall feed intake was found to be higher when using Fresh-Guard by 1.2kgDM/day Fresh guard is the most cost effective option available to farmers looking to prevent heating/ spoilage at a cost of around 2p / cow / day.
Moist Feeds
Brewers Grains have become even more difficult to source, as on the strength of England’s World Cup performance production has dropped, a classic case of brewers droop!! As a consequence we’re not sellers of grains but we still have available limited amounts of our successful moist blends, the Wessex Range.
